Man convicted of murder in 2017 death of baby
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A man has been found guilty of murder in the death of an 11-month-old baby.
Bryant Rolland Jr. was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of Jaceyon Downey, who died in August 2017.
Police say Rolland was babysitting the baby and his older brother at the time.
Rolland initially told investigators Jaceyon fell down the stairs and hit his head, but later changed his story and claimed his 4-year-old brother pushed him down a set of two stairs inside the home.
He then changed his story again to say he was holding Jaceyon when they fell down the stairs outside the home and claimed to have a medical condition, which was ruled false.
Autopsy results determined the baby died from abusive head trauma.
