Suspects charged in dozens of vehicle break-ins

HASTINGS, Mich. — Two people are facing charges after allegedly shooting out vehicle windows before stealing things inside.

Investigators say the crime spree spanned across several counties and involved dozens of vehicles being damaged in Hastings and Allegan.

Wednesday afternoon, 17-year-old Marc Wiggins and 19-year-old Emil Skokan were arraigned on 17 different charges for the series of incidents. Prosecutors say those charges are just the beginning and more are expected to be filed in other counties.

Police tracked the suspects down after getting a description of the vehicle they were allegedly using from surveillance footage taken at a business in Hastings. A short time later, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources officer spotted that vehicle — reported stolen out of Kalamazoo Township — leading to a pursuit and eventually their arrest.

Officers said one of the teens had a loaded handgun on him at the time of his arrest and two more loaded shotguns were found inside.
