GRPD investigating shooting on city’s SE side

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids police are investigating a shooting Thursday on the city’s southeast side.

It happened Thursday afternoon on Kalamazoo Avenue near Johnston Street.

Grand Rapids police Sgt. Dan Adams said there were two people injured in the incident, a girl who is a minor and a man.

The girl was taken to an area hospital for treatment for an injury that wasn’t life-threatening. The man’s gunshot wound was very minor and he declined medical treatment.

Police initially said the incident was a drive-by shooting, but have since said they aren’t ready to classify it as one.

Information on a suspect or vehicle involved in the shooting wasn’t immediately available.
